MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

As we roll up to another Father’s Day this weekend, I am reminded that not all of us have fathers who live up to the name.

I am very lucky. I have a father who loves me, supported me, and at times was tough on me. Most of all he was and is still there for me, even when we disagree on politics.

This week the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office is rounding up delinquent fathers and mothers who are massively behind on their child support payments. District Attorney Bailey stated “I cannot force you to have a relationship with your child but I can force you to support your child.”

WSFA is trying to help by posting a slide show of the child support offenders, hopefully bringing a brighter light to the issue.

Everyone runs into financial issues from time to time. That is not what the D.A. is talking about. He is looking for the worst of the worst. The individuals who have abandoned their responsibility and left that responsibility to someone else. In many cases the bulk of that falls on the state.

If you are behind, come clean. Find a way to start supporting your child. Get back in their life and make a positive influence. The DA said that he is willing to help you to get back on the right path.

Having a child is a blessing from God. Supporting your child is not your right, it is your responsibility… a responsibility that you will be judged on and not just by the courts.
