Cowboys take top defender with first pick in draft

IRVING, Texas (AP)_ The Dallas Cowboys took defensive end/linebacker DeMarcus Ware from Troy with their first pick in the NFL draft today (Saturday). It was the eleventh pick overall.

Ware is a 6-foot-four, 250-pounder that will likely help the Cowboys make the transition from a primary four-man defensive front to a three-man front.

The Cowboys also have another first-round pick today, the 20th pick overall.

The first three rounds of the draft are being conducted today. Dallas also has the 42nd overall pick in the second round.

But the Cowboys don't have a pick in the third round because of the trade last year in which they acquired quarterback Drew Henson.
