TUSKEGEE, AL (WSFA) - More than 100 students walked across the stage at the Tuskegee University Chapel, accepting their diplomas, during Friday's summer commencement exercises.
This year's speaker was Actor Derek Luke who is known for his role in the critically acclaimed film Antwone Fisher.
With a Tuskegee university diploma in hand, Keonna Hunter admitted she was on cloud nine.
"I'm almost about to cry it is exciting. The college experience is worth it - life lessons. I've learned a lot," Hunter said.
The emotions were also high for Raju Gupta who was celebrating this major milestone surrounded by family.
"I got to bring my family from overseas from Nepal where I'm from. So this is a big for me," Gupta said.
Luke used his own personal journey in securing his breakout role as Antwone Fisher to encourage these graduates. Getting the lead part in the film wasn't an easy road, but his faith in God was the key.
"I finished that audition number five. Hope looks like your dreams faith are the feet to your hope," Luke said.
With these graduates preparing for their future endeavors, Luke's message was right on time.
"My declaration to you is that you just trust Him. You may be in a hostile environment just trust Him. They may tell you your not the type just trust Him," Luke said.
"After graduation it is kind of a scary time. If you don't have a job lined up or know what you are doing for graduate school it can be a hostile time, but like he said if you trust in God He will show you what you are meant to do. I feel like I know what I'm suppose to do," said graduate Derrick Mcelwee.
Luke follows Tyler Perry, Phylicia Rashad and First Lady Michelle Obama who all recently spoke at Tuskegee graduations.
