(WSFA) - Sometimes you don't see it coming; For Ren and Fay, they were middle school and high school classmates, but nothing more.
"I liked him but was always afraid to talk to him because he was popular," Fay said.
Ren and Fay both married and had happy lives. Sadly their spouses passed away years ago and then fate stepped in. The two hadn't seen each other in 50 years when they bumped into each other at an event.
"I was like, hey you're Ren Prickett."
He sure was and from then began a friendship, which led to some dates and eventually marriage.
Fay is a football loving southern girl and she always had a wish that's a little different.
"We watch that show on TV Tree Masters. I said one night I would like a tree house. Nothing big but maybe a little deck to drink some coffee on."
Ren, who's a handy man and a romantic, began to develop some bigger plans.
"It just kept growing," Ren said.
"I couldn't believe it," Fay said. "He did it for me, that made it special."
A huge staircase, outdoor patio with chairs and umbrella, a bed, moon roof, air conditioning, running water, a TV, and peace and quiet just a few hundred yards from home.
"I will say are you ready to go to Paradise?" said Fay. "And then we go. It's about two minutes away."
Their own private escape, literally in their own back yard, but seems like hundreds of miles away and he's not done just yet. Ren is considering a bathroom and even a trolley system to get from the home to the tree house.
