Several central AL mayoral races headed to runoffs

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The big headline of election night in central Alabama - longtime mayor Johnny Ford fell to Mayor pro tem Lawrence Tony Haygood in the Tuskegee mayoral race.

The mayor of Selma was also defeated Tuesday night. That race will go to a runoff between Rep. Darrio Melton and former mayor James Perkins Jr.

Several other races in the area will go to runoffs in October.

In Alex City, James Nabors received 47 percent of the votes. He will face incumbent Charles Shaw Sr. in a runoff.

In Tallassee, Johnny Hammock received the most votes out of the four candidates. He will be up against former mayor George McCain in October's runoff.

There were seven mayoral candidates on the ballot in Opp. There will be a runoff between incumbent John Bartholomew and Becky Bracke.

In Ozark, Mike Barfield and former mayor Bob Bunting are heading to a runoff.

The mayors of Troy, Wetumpka, Opelika, Prattville and Enterprise all won re-election.
