The Department of Defense announced on Friday that a Birmingham soldier was killed in a Baghdad explosion this week.
Staff Sargeant William J. Brooks died Tuesday while conducting a security mission. The Army says an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. The 30-old Brooks was a member of the First Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, Third Infantry Division out of Fort Stewart, Georgia.
