MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Only a few long weeks and this presidential election will finally be over. I have never been so sick of politics in my life.

The question that we have to ask ourselves is, “How the heck did we get here?” How are these two the choices that we have for President of the United States.

The far right and far left control this process yet 80% of us fall somewhere in between and we have no viable option.

The Democrats have trotted out the worst nominee since Walter Mondale, and she is going to win easily over the reality TV star that is the Republican nominee.

I fully understand, while not completely agreeing, that the far right wanted to change the atmosphere in Washington. They put their saddle on the wrong horse. Donald Trump could actually achieve change but the change may be a crumbling Republican Party.

In the end the 80% have got to become more vocal in the next four years. That involvement will hopefully encourage the best candidates to run for the most important job in the world.

Both political sides have said that this is the most important election in all of our lifetimes. I disagree. That will be the election in four years and the work for real change needs to start now.

The subject of legalizing marijuana is more openly discussed these days, but I sense I will be long gone before our state ever passes such legislation.

I can’t begin to thank all the people in Montgomery who went out of their way to make an outsider feel at home. In only a year and a half we have made lifelong friends, friends who we would count on with our lives and our children’s lives. But it is the South, and that is what you do.
