Massive Water Main Break In Selma

Late Wednesday afternoon, the city of Selma suffered a catastrophic water main break near the downtown area.

It happened where Jeff Davis Avenue crosses Broad Street. A water main broke with such force and intensity that it drained all three of the city's elevated water tanks in a matter of minutes. That meant the city lost between one and one and a half million gallons of water stored in those above ground tanks.

As a result, the city of Selma has declared a state of emergency. The water system serves a total of more than 28-thousand people. According to the state register, Selma relies entirely on water city owned wells.
