Montgomery received worldwide attention as Hyundai officials opened their first assembly line in the United States.
Dozens of dignitaries from Korea and the United States took center stage for the automaker's official ribbon cutting Friday, and it was a spectacular show. About four thousand people witnessed the festivities under a huge tent that featured the debut of Hyundai's 2006 sonata. Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright and Governor Bob Riley says Friday was an historic day for the city and the state of Alabama.
Riley says, "We celebrate the culmination of those efforts, we celebrate the culmination of a partnership and a cooperation from the past 3 years. We may not share the same language, but we share the same goal, and now together we share that accomplishment."
Friday's entertainment spotlighted groups like Montgomery Vibe and Elec Cookie, a musical group from Korea. You can watch those performances at www.wsfa.com.
