MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Montgomery Humane Society kicked off its 13th annual Wrap it Up campaign Thursday. It’s one of the organization’s biggest fundraisers of the year.

“All the funds that we raise go right back to the animals for heartworm treatment, spay and neutering,” said Lea Turbert with the Montgomery Humane Society.

Last year, the Wrap it Up campaign raised $29,000.

“Right now, we have over 200 animals in our shelter that are looking for a forever, loving home,” Turbert said. “Our staff works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They take home animals to be fostered while they’re going through treatments, or have been sick, or need to be socialized.”

Volunteers and staff members will be wrapping gifts every day through Christmas Eve in a store front adjacent to PetSmart at EastChase.

“We make it easy for people who live in the community. You can just come on in, drop off your presents. You get to pick out the paper. We have all the boxes, all the tags, all the tissue. You just tell us how you want it wrapped, and we’ll do it for you,” Turbert said.

EastChase is pet friendly and hosting a number of events to benefit the Montgomery Humane Society throughout the month of December.

“We’re doing pet photos with Santa every day,” explained Suzanna Wasserman, Marketing Manager at the Shoppes at EastChase. “$5 for every pet photo. That can be a pet or a family photo that includes your pet, will go back to the Humane Society.”

Blackfin restaurant is hosting “Yappy Hour” on Dec. 20. It's a pet friendly event to collect donations for the shelter.
