MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A news conference was held Thursday afternoon in Montgomery to discuss the economic and historic significance that would come about from the U.S. Air Force deciding to locate its new F-35A jets here. Montgomery is now on the short list to get the new jets.
The 187th Fighter Wing, based at Dannelly Field in Montgomery, is home to the 100th Fighter Squadron, which carries the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen "Red Tails". Dannelly Field was named among the top five bases in the running to receive the new F-35 Fighter Jet Wednesday.
Those who spoke at the news conference included Colonel Randall J. Efferson, Commander of the 187th Fighter Wing, Montgomery Regional Air National Guard Base, and Colonel Roosevelt J. Lewis, Jr., President of the Tuskegee Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. and former Owner of Air Tuskegee and Manager of Moton Field, the original aviation home of the Tuskegee Airmen.
