COPY-Leaders plan BRAC counterattack

MONTGOMERY, Ala. Alabama 3rd District Congressman Mike Rogers believes Montgomery leaders did all they could to keep an Air Force technology service from being moved to Massachusetts.

Rogers made the comments yesterday afternoon after touring an Air National Guard base in Montgomery.The Base Realignment and Closure report advises that Headquarters Operations and Sustainment Systems Group be shifted from Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base to Hanscom Air Force Base near Boston. The O-S-S-G's move could affect as many as three-thousand-200 workers.Meanwhile, efforts continue to find ways to counter BRAC's recommendationPaul Hankins, the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce's military affairs consultant, said plans are to hire economic experts to further study the BRAC data.He said the plan is to find shortcomings to present to BRAC panel members at a regional public hearing June 30th in Atlanta.The commission must have a report submitted by September eighth to President Bush and Congress.
