ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Nobody knows what to believe anymore with "secret shopper scams" and bogus checks landing in mailboxes from different sources, but there is one type of check being sent to Walmart customers, and in this case the check is real.

If you shop at Walmart and you use the pharmacy, vision center or care clinic you could be due a refund.  Thousands of checks are sent out for over payment to customers each year.  In Wisconsin, some shoppers received the checks, but they were told by police the checks were phony.  Turns out they were not.  A Walmart spokesperson tells News 4 the payments are valid refunds and customers are entitled to receive them, and should feel free to cash the checks.

So what if you received one of the refund checks, and thought it was a fraud and threw it away?  You can get the check reissued.  You can call Walmart at 866-788-5580.

Here is the statement provided by Walmart:

"Walmart Global Shared Services is a division of Walmart, Inc and issues refund checks.  These checks are over payments for services purchased from the pharmacy, vision center or care clinics in our stores.  It's a refund customers are entitled to receive and should feel assured to cash them."
