It's uncharted territory for the Troy women's basketball team. After capturing the program's first-ever Sun Belt Conference title last season, they now look to do the unthinkable and repeat.

"You got to stay hungry, you got to stay the underdog, you got to stay humble, and you got to have faith," said head coach Chanda Rigby. "So all those things you have to keep working on just as much, or more, than you're working on basketball skills."

A team just a few years removed from a two-win season, Rigby has her team one victory away from its third straight 20-win season.

"Instead if it being something we expected to lose, which was the expectation when we came, now it's the expectation we win," said Rigby.

"I never have losing on my mind just because I take it one game at a time, and I want to win and if I want to win, I'm going to make sure I push for the team to win," said senior Caitlyn Ramirez.

It's a tough road for the Trojans in New Orleans if they want to be crowned back-to-back champions. The Trojans will face either Arkansas State or Georgia Southern in its first game and will then have likely matchups with Texas-Arlington and Arkansas-Little Rock in the semifinals and finals.

"Anyone can beat anyone on any given night," said senior Lauren Day. "It's the tournament. Everyone is playing their last game. They're giving it everything they have, and you're getting everyone's best shot. We just have to bring our best effort too."

For this team, title number two may be even better than title number one.

"I do want to go out bigger and better than we did last year," said Ramirez. "ABK had set the goal last year to win conference. Now we are going to win conference and go to the NCAA tournament and get by the first round and go from there."

The Trojans will open up play in the Sun Belt Conference tournament on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
