MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Lawmakers of the Alabama House judiciary committee voted unanimously Wednesday to resume the impeachment investigation into Gov. Bentley.

The investigation has been on hold since Nov. 3 at the request of then Attorney General Luther Strange.

Tuesday the committee held their first meeting on impeachment in the new year and a motion which would have resumed the investigation failed to pass, after confusion and concerns with the language.

Committee members voted to resume the investigation with a simpler motion.

The investigation allows the committee's special counsel Jack Sharman to resume his investigation, but to coordinate as much is "practical and possible" with other related investigations.

Chairman of the committee Mike Jones said he does not know when the committee will meet on impeachment again, but hopes resuming the investigation will allow everything to be ready when they do.
