PHENIX CITY, Ala. A 17-year-old Phenix City teenager is in the Russell County Jail today charged with capital murder in the beating death of a two-year-old girl he was babysitting.

Police in Phenix City say Johnny Earl Jones was charged Sunday night for allegedly killing Destiny Ward. Investigators said a preliminary autopsy showed the girl suffered blunt force trauma to the abdomen.

Under Alabama law, Jones was charged with capital murder because the victim was under the age of 14.
