MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley gave an update on his health after being taken to the hospital last week.

The governor said on Tuesday that he is feeling great and doing well following a short period of atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation, or AFib, involves the top two chambers of the heart where the heart tries to go in a very fast, chaotic rhythm.

“I knew what it was immediately when it hit,” the governor said. “I went to the hospital, and they kept me in overnight thinking medications might get it back to the sinus normal rhythm, but it didn’t.”

That’s when Bentley said the doctors proceeded to shock his heart back into a normal sinus rhythm. Soon after, Bentley said, his heart went back into a normal rhythm and has been fine ever since.

Bentley did add some humor to the conversation, adding “you know it’s always good to get a shock.”
