Auburn women's basketball set for NCAA tourney match with NC State

WACO, TX (WSFA) -

The Auburn Tigers will begin their journey to a national title in Texas once again as the Tigers get ready to take on N.C. State in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday. Auburn defeated St. John's in the first round back in 2016 in Waco before falling to No. 1 seed Baylor in the second round.

The No. 11 seed Tigers (17-14) enter the NCAA tournament after a first-round exit in the SEC tournament. The Tigers have only won two of their last nine games, not exactly how you expect to enter the 'Big Dance'.

The ladies left for Texas on Wednesday and will get in some practice before taking on the Wolfpack. N.C. State (22-8) enters the tournament ranked No. 17 in the nation and winners of six of its last eight matches.

To pull off the upset, the Tigers will have to rely on senior Katie Frerking who leads the Tigers in points per game (15.9) and rebounds per game (6.4).

Auburn and N.C. State will tip off Friday at 11 a.m.
