Dale County deputies investigate homicide after body discovered

DALE CO., AL, (WSFA) -

The Dale County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide after a body was recovered near the Choctawhatchee River, the sheriff's office confirms.

At about 5 p.m. Saturday evening, Ozark-Dale County E911 received a call in reference to a deceased person on East County Road 36 in the Echo Community. The body, due to heavy decomposition, was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for identification and autopsy. 

The Dothan and Ozark Police Departments will assist with the investigation, along with the Dale County District Attorney's Office, Dale County Coroner's Office, Echo Fire and Rescue, ALEA Troopers and the Dale County Sheriff's Mounted Posse.

Limited details are being released at this time. More information will be released as it becomes available.
