MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - As we are in the middle of the Lenten season I wonder how many of us have stuck to our pledge to give up something. My priest told a group of us just prior to the beginning of lent that we were not allowed to give up sinning for lent. Sadly someone asked if they could.
So, here is my report card.
I typically give up diet soda and snacks but opted not to do that this year. I thought I should do something to better myself so I decided I was going to work out at least five days a week and signed up at the Y. My fully packed gym bag still sits in my car. I have yet to go.
I know I am not alone. Here's a thought.
For a single day let's just go out of our way to be nice to people. If we are in a drive-through at a fast food restaurant lets pay for the person's meal behind us. When mowing your yard mow your neighbor's yard as well. Put your neighbor's trash can back at the house. Say 'Good Day' to those in an elevator. Bake some cookies for a friend. Just Be kind.
Individual acts of kindness really do make a difference. Let's start this today and work on it all year round.
I sense it will make everyone feel better and chances are you might be the recipient of a good deed as well.
