Nathan Mathis To Run For Governor

A former Wiregrass lawmaker plans to run for Governor as an independent, if he can get 42-thousand signatures on a petition to run.

Nathan Mathis of Slocomb says fully taxed casinos are the answer to the states funding woes. He proposes allowing 15 casinos to be built in the state. Each license would go to the highest bidder. Mathis says, "Can you imagine what the bid on having the exclusive rights to a casino on Birmingham would bring in? 100, 200 million. There's no telling. Under my proposal, all monies would be deposited into the general fund to solve our problems with medicaid, prisons and the shortage of state troopers."

Mathis also proposed taxing current electronic gaming centers. In return for giving the owners the right to expand to Birmingham and Mobile.
