MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Officials with the House of Judiciary Committee have released a statement following the comments made by Gov. Bentley’s attorney Thursday.

State House Representative Jim Hill, R-District 50, the vice chairman of the HJC says attorney Ross Garber stated the judiciary committee’s special counsel Jack Sharman had, “seized control” of the investigation.

“Jack Sharman is carrying out the duties assigned to him by the Judiciary Committee,” said Hill, a retired St. Clair County circuit court judge.  “Jack has the complete support of the committee’s leadership.”

On Thursday, Bentley filed an emergency motion seeking to stop the release of a pending impeachment probe report the committee's special counsel is in the process of finalizing.

Garber held a news conference regarding the legal procedures of the impeachment probe, in which he urged the committee to, "take control" of the investigation he says has gone, "off the rails".
