MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A group of Alabama citizens is planning to file an official bar complaint Thursday against Sen. Luther Strange, according to a news release.

The release lists nine names including Attorney Sam McClure as filing the complaint. The group has been deeply troubled about Strange taking Gov. Robert Bentley’s appointment to the U.S. Senate, the release says.

“We have to hold our political leaders accountable,” said David King. “Everyone in the State knows this smells fishy. We would all cry foul if a prosecutor stopped a white collar crime investigation against a corporation, only then to take a job with the corporation,” said King.

The release further says the complaint focuses on Strange’s acceptance of the position while he was in office handling an investigation of Bentley. It also acknowledges that if Strange’s office was not conducting an investigation at the time, it should have been.

After a bar complaint is filed, it’s in the hands of the General Counsel to decide whether to pursue discipline, according to the release.

A press conference surrounding the complaint is scheduled to take place at 11:15 a.m. at the Alabama State Bar.
