MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The state of Alabama and its lawmakers are starting to move forward after a scandal that rocked the top office.

The Senate Judiciary Committee will meet Wednesday to discuss new rules on how the Senate would deal with impeachment if it ever came up again.

Lawmakers say if Bentley’s process moved through to the Senate for a trial, the Senate would have had little to no direction on how they would proceed.

This bill, sponsored by Sen. Phil Williams, R-District 10, appears to give the House and Senate subpoena power. Attorneys for former Gov. Robert Bentley argued the legislature did not have subpoena power as they had no way to enforce any punishments. This led Bentley and others to not produce documents and testimony when requested.
