MACON CO., AL (WSFA) -

On Tuesday, Alabama Department of Transportation officials released numbers on the cost of a repair job to a damaged bridge on I-85.

ALDOT says the job cost was around $170,000. Crews completed repair work on the bridge in March on a bridge after it was damaged during a crash in Macon County.

During the crash, the driver of a truck somehow lost control in the southbound lanes of I-85, drove down the embankment between the two bridges, and struck one of the concrete pillars supporting the bridge in the northbound lanes.

Brantley Kirk, the Alabama Department of Transportation spokeswoman for the region highway said crews had to reconstruct the so-called bridge cap that sits on top of the concrete pillar.

Kirk says that cap absorbs the traffic weight so the project was much more than rebuilding the damaged column.
