Man arrested on rape charges in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A man has been arrested in Montgomery after a sexual assault investigation by the police department.

According to Capt. Regina Duckett, Corneilus Edward Powell has been charged with rape first degree.

The charges are related to a sexual assault investigation in the 5900 block of Monticello Drive, Duckett said. During the course of the investigation, police identified Powell as the suspect.

Duckett says Powell was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force on Tuesday. He was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility under a $20,000 bond.
