BALTIMORE (WJZ/CNN) - A Maryland woman is suing the Baltimore Orioles and Major League Baseball after she was hit in the face with a bat.

The attorney for Patricia Dowdell said she was hit by a flying bat while sitting in the stands at Camden Yards.

The bat had slipped out of the hands of O's slugger Chris Davis.

According to court documents, Dowdell suffered skull fractures, brain swelling and permanent damage.

"As of right now, she has four plates holding her eye into the sockets," said attorney Brendan Klaproth. "I think it's necessary so fans are aware of the risk."

Klaproth's lawsuit is seeking more than $75,000 in damages and an injunction requiring the team to install protective netting to the outfield side of each dugout.

The Orioles and MLB declined comment on Dowdell's suit.
