TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster failed a drug test at the NFL Combine, according to a report by NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

The report says Foster learned in March that his urine sample provided at the combine had been reported as diluted. Provisions in the NFL's policy and program for substances of abuse treat this like a positive test.

Foster spoke candidly with NFL.com about the test.

"This is something that's going to get out. I don't make excuses. I'm a real dude. I try to be a good person. ... I just hope the coaches understand and that's all I can hope and pray for," he told Rapaport.

Foster said he battled an illness leading up to the combine. He believes he suffered from food poisoning.

"I couldn't eat much, but I had to drink water and Gatorade," Foster told Rapaport.

He declined to have a doctor put him on IVs to rehydrate. Instead, he saw a doctor, got medication and started hydrating himself.
