MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A man is facing charges after police say he took an officer’s gun away during a struggle, according to Montgomery Police.

Capt. Regina Duckett says Dallas Ray White, 50, is charged with attempting to commit murder of a law enforcement officer. He is also facing charges of criminal trespassing.

The charges are related to an incident that happened on Sunday around 4 p.m. Duckett says White was found trespassing on private property and when the officer asked him to leave, he became combative.

A struggle then ensued and White gained possession of the officer’s gun, Duckett said. The officer was able to hold White’s arm and keep the weapon stationary until a backup officer arrived.

White eventually dropped the weapon and was taken into custody.

Duckett said both White and the officer sustained minor injuries.

White was taken to the Montgomery County Detention Facility under a $60,300 bond.
