MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officials say driver license offices and non-driver ID issuances are again closed after the second instance of computer issues in two days.

According to ALEA, the closure includes all ALEA offices, probate, license commissioner offices and online issuances. A software update during the weekend is causing database issues. ALEA and its support contractor, MorphoTrust USA, are working on the problem and will have the system up and running as soon as possible.

MorphoTrust released the following statement:

“Over the weekend, ALEA and its support contractor, MorphoTrust USA, upgraded computer systems to enable the production of new Commercial Learner’s Permits in Alabama. Despite extensive testing by the teams, problems were encountered early Monday which resulted in a shutdown of the system statewide for approximately two hours.  Similar problems forced the shutdown of the entire system again for approximately two hours on Tuesday morning, and we are still experiencing intermittent system performance issues that may impact customer service.  A dedicated team of experts from ALEA and MorphoTrust USA is working closely together in Montgomery to restore the system to normal operations as quickly as possible.  This team will work around the clock until we are satisfied that all issues have been corrected, computer system operations are stable, and customer service is back to normal.”

The system was shut down statewide on Monday for about two hours for this issue.
