Power service restored in several Elmore County communities

ELMORE CO., AL (WSFA) -

More than 5,000 customers of Central Alabama Electric Cooperative in Elmore County lost power Thursday afternoon, according to CAEC. The power has been restored.

Those affected included residents in Redland, Wetumpka, Wallsboro, and Eclectic.

CAEC initially stated that service was down due to an unknown problem with Alabama Power, which CAEC said caused a loss of power at a transmission line that affects CAEC's power substation.

CAEC then updated the situation to indicate this was not an issue with Alabama Power, rather its own lightning arrestors at its substation had blown. Its crews worked as quickly as possible to repair the problem.
