Escaped Crenshaw County inmate back in custody

CRENSHAW CO., AL (WSFA) -

The Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate who escaped from the county jail on Thursday has been taken back into custody.

According to Sheriff Mickey Powell, Carlos Burnett, 31, escaped from the Crenshaw County Jail around 11 p.m.

Burnett was taken back into custody Friday without injury but no additional details surrounding his capture have been released.

Powell says Burnett, who was expected to be released from jail on Wednesday, was serving time on misdemeanor charges.

    A Brundidge man was killed Saturday evening when he was hit by a vehicle in Pike County.  According to the Alabama State Troopers, the crash happened on U.S. 231 near the 173 mile marker. The victim, 60-year-old Eddie Davis Copeland, was hit and killed by a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Fred Reynolds Hudley, 87, of Brundidge.
