Man arrested in Montgomery capital murder investigation

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Montgomery Police Department has charged a man with capital murder after a Friday night shooting left a woman dead on Sumter Avenue. 

Johnel Travis, 27, has been arrested and charged with the death of Rebecca Quillin, 73. He's also charged with attempted murder of an unnamed man, according to police department spokeswoman Capt. Regina Duckett.

According to Duckett, MPD and Fire Medics responded to a call regarding a person shot around 8:30 p.m. Friday in the 2700 block of Sumpter Avenue. Upon arrival, police found Quillin's body. She was pronounced dead on the scene. 

According to court documents, the victims were shot during a burglary.

The male victim suffered a serious gunshot wound to the face and was transported to an area hospital. 

Travis, who was a known acquaintance of the victims, is being held at the Montgomery County Detention Facility without bond.
