MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

GOP Senate candidate Randy Brinson is calling for possible campaign violations to be investigated before the special election.

Secretary of State John Merrill recently referred "potential concerns" about a past campaign finance filing by Senator Luther Strange to the state's ethics commission, but the commission won't meet until the day after the special election.

Details on the exact reason for Merrill's "potential concerns" have not been released.

Brinson is urging Gov. Kay Ivey to call a meeting of the ethics commission to resolve the issue before election day.

Ivey's office has not publicly reacted to Brinson's statement or said it she will call for an ethics meeting.
