MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A man wanted in a Montgomery murder case from more than a decade ago was captured near the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas.

According to MPD, Armando Lopez has been extradited to Montgomery and is being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility. Lopez was charged with murder in 2007 after Eduardo Gonzalez was shot and killed on Dec. 31, 2006 in Montgomery. Police say it appears Lopez had fled the country.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol in Weslaco, Texas, took Lopez into custody. MPD says he was arrested sometime in early July.

At the time of the initial incident, police said Gonzales was shot in his home on Lakewood Drive and pronounced dead at the scene. Police said an altercation ensued when the two men were arguing over rent.
