With school starting for some and the first day of class just around the corner for others, there are multiple events going on Saturday across the River Region to get students ready for back to school.

  • Borne Generation, a new local church at the Union Station in downtown Montgomery, located at 300 Water St., Suit 200 A, is hosting a back-to-school supply giveaway. The giveaway will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. The church is partnering with Frito-Lay North America and Coca-Cola to provide free school supplies to students including backpacks, markers pencils, notebooks etc. Parents must register when they arrive with their children.   • The Riverfront Bark in the Park will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. located at 355 Commerce St. The event will feature costume contests, a splash pad for pets, the Flying Hounds Frisbee Show, food and vendors and a Montgomery Police Department K-9 demo. The entry fee is $2 and benefits the Montgomery Humane Society. For more information visit the website or call 334-625-2100.
  • Virginia College in Montgomery will host a back to school event Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the campus located at 6200 Atlanta Highway. The event is free and open to the public. There will be refreshments, a scavenger hunt, campus tour, information sessions and more. People that attend will be entered to win prizes like Amazon gift cards and backpacks filled with supplies.   • The First Baptist Church is hosting the Back-to-School Block Party and Medical/Dental Clinic Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The block party and clinic will be located at Nehemiah Center  213 Broadway St. There will be a water slide, bounce house, crafts, food, health and dental screenings and a backpack filled with supplies.   • JCPenney in the Eastdale Mall will host a Back-to-School Safety Bash from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students and parents can learn safety tips from members of the local EMS and the fire and police departments. There will also be a coloring station, a bounce house, food and more. You can donate a backpack to a local child in need for $7. Students will receive a gift bag while supplies last.   • Health Services Inc. will give away over 500 backpacks Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at 1845 Cherry Street. There will be giveaways, health screenings, food and more.
  • Kingz United is hosting a Doubleheader School Supply Drive, school supply drive and fun fest from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be food, fun, haircuts and more. The supplies will be free while it lasts. The event is being held in the Dadeville High School Gym Lobby from 9 a.m. 12 p.m.
