ELMORE CO., AL (WSFA) -

Elmore County school leaders passed out 59 new keys to bus drivers Friday morning. The new buses represent about half of the school system's entire fleet.

Supt. Richard Dennis said the buses are larger and have new technology, including up to six security cameras.

"It is going to help us put us in a position to put our fleet where it needs to be so that we can better serve our communities," Dennis said. "With 59 new buses, we are really going to be in a great position to make sure our students are safe and we have adequate transportation."

The school board is planning to do a lease-to-own program on the new vehicles which will allow the county to pay for them over a 10-year period.

The wheels will start rolling Wednesday morning when classes start back Aug. 9.
