A Pike Road resident with a keen eye may have helped investigators bust wide open an investigation into multiple vehicle break-ins.

The resident called the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Friday morning to report a suspicious vehicle that deputies quickly found and pulled over.

While investigating, the sheriff's office dispatch began getting complaint calls from two separate neighborhoods to report vehicle break-ins.

There were five people inside the suspicious vehicle and they were in possession of property including purses, cash, electronics, and even a handgun, according to the sheriff's office.

Detectives have completed 10 reports for unlawfully breaking and entering vehicles,  along with numerous counts of theft of property, and charges have been filed against all five suspects. Their names and specific charges have not yet been made available.

The sheriff's office said most of the stolen property has been recovered, but their investigation is ongoing to determine if any other vehicles were targeted.

In each case, authorities say the vehicle broken into was unlocked.
