DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) -

The Dothan Tigers are entering the 2017 season under head coach Kevin Jackson. This is Jackson's second season with the Tigers.

In his first season as the head man, Jackson led the Tigers to the playoffs, but an early exit has made the Tigers hungry for a deeper run in 2017.

Jackson and the Tigers were hard at work on the practice fields getting ready for the upcoming season.

"It was a quiet practice," said Jackson. "It should've been an exciting practice but at the same time, we are young. We just have to get these guys energy and motivated."

Jackson and the Tigers made big strides in their first season, but now it's time to push the pedal down even further.

"I want to be real physical," said Jackson. "I want to be hard-nosed. I want to be kind of tough. I want to be nasty, especially on defense and offense. We weren't really nasty last year. I want a mean streak in us. When we get on the field Friday night, I want it to be a whole different person."

The Tigers lost several pieces from last year's playoff team and are now in the process of finding some of the younger talent to step up.

"For our young kids, we have to reiterate that and make sure they understand what type a guy they have to be," said Jackson. "You can be a good guy at school, but when you get on this football field, you have to be a different kind of guy."

Jackson still believes he's got the talent to make another run into the playoffs in 2017.

"We have the talent, we just have to get everybody on the same page," said Jackson. "We have to get everybody working to one accord. Everybody wants to win a championship, but we have to be able to practice like we're supposed to do to win a championship. Right now, we are not a playoff caliber team, but at the same time will get there. We got three weeks to go until we play Enterprise, and I have no doubt that these guys will get themselves together."

The Tigers open up the 2017 season against the Enterprise Wildcats on Aug. 25.
