AL National Guard's Dothan-based 186th Engineer Company called to active duty

DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) -

The Alabama Army National Guard's 186th Engineer Company, based out of Dothan, has been called to active duty.

The horizontal engineer company will have a deployment ceremony at the Dothan Civic Center at 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 13.

The company will deploy approximately 160 Alabama National Guard Soldiers to the U.S. Central Command's area of responsibility in order to improve current installations.

The unit specializes in the construction of roads, airfields, berms, building foundations, and the clearing and grubbing of forested areas. The company will conduct some additional training at a mobilization station before deploying overseas.

Civilian officials, as well as senior Alabama National Guardsmen, will attend the ceremony to send off the Soldiers of the logistics team.

The general public is invited and encouraged to attend to show their support for the Soldiers and their families.

The Alabama National Guard has called more than 25,000 personnel to active duty since 9/11 and remains a top contributor among the nation's National Guard organizations.
