MONTGOMERY COUNTY, AL (WSFA) -

Part of the roof collapsed at the Big Lots Distribution Center on Selma Highway.

According to Montgomery Fire/Rescue, units responded to a private alarm at the facility Thursday night. The collapse happened about 50 yards from the outer wall.

Upon arrival, the units smelled a gas odor inside the building. HAZMAT was dispatched to monitor. Units turned off gas and power, and HAZMAT checked the scene later and found no additional odor.

The building manager told the units all occupants of the building were accounted for, but a 51-year-old woman was evaluated for breathing difficulty. She refused transport but went to the hospital in a private vehicle.

The cause of the collapse is unclear at this time. A structural building engineer will evaluate the building's integrity, but MFR does not know when that will happen.
