TROY, AL (WSFA) -

The Troy Trojans held its first scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday. The Trojans looked good in some places on both offense and defense, but still have some work to do to become a championship-caliber team.

The Trojans will have to put last year's 10-3 season in the past.

Troy came within just four points of winning the conference title when they lost to Georgia Southern 28-24 in the regular season finale, a loss that left a chip on the shoulder of all these Trojan players who are now looking to take home a conference title for the first time since 2010.

"We have raised expectations in our program and that's to be expected after coming off last season's 10-3 season, but we have to turn the page," said head coach Neal Brown. "Those expectations are welcome. It's our genuine belief that we are building a program. We don't want to be known as a one hit wonder. A team that wins 10 games and comes out of nowhere. We want to be a program that's annually in contention for the Sun Belt Conference Championship."

"Going into the season, that's the main goal. Either conference championship or nothing," said defensive back Kam Melton. "It's a big motivation. It's a big chip on our shoulders. If you're not, there's just something wrong with you. It motivates me every day. It motivates my teammates every day."

"That's the ultimate goal. We're just really focused," said running back BJ Smith. "We just have a television on that, but we just have to let that hunger and fight just fuel us each and every day on the practice field."

"Last season, we had a 10-win season, but the ultimate goal was to win the conference championship but we didn't do that last year," said defensive back Jalen Harris. "This year we are approaching the season with a chip on our shoulders to get the championship."

There's still one more week of fall camp for the Trojans as they get ready to kick off the season against the Boise State Broncos on Sept. 2.
