Pike Road Schools is gearing up for the upcoming solar eclipse set to take place on Monday.

Pike Road Schools Superintendent Chuck Ledbetter says because of the once in a lifetime, education event they are making the capabilities for students and staff to take advantage of the opportunity.

Absences and early check-outs for the day will be excused but parents will need to send a note, according to Ledbetter.

The school plans to offer live streaming indoor group viewing at all schools. Ledbetter is encouraging both schools to provide access to all students for viewing at their school

Some teachers and students will be able to view the eclipse outdoors with school provided glasses. Permission slips and student/parent pledge forms must be returned by Friday at 3 p.m.

Students without permission slips and pledge forms will attend the indoor viewing. Please note that due to limited availability of glasses, many students will only be offered indoor viewing, Ledbetter says.

Ledbetter stresses that parents may opt to check their student out to enjoy this event.

“As always, please talk to your school principal if you have any questions or concerns,” Ledbetter said. “We appreciate your support as we work to ensure student and staff safety during this exciting, rare educational opportunity.”
