Timothy McVeigh Pronounced Dead

(Terre Haute, Indiana-AP) Warden Harley Lappin says McVeigh was executed by lethal injection, and was pronounced dead at 7:14 central Monday morning. He says McVeigh did not make a final statement. Instead, he says, McVeigh provided him a written statement that he has passed along to the media.

He becomes the first federal prisoner to be executed in thirty eight years. The thirty three year old Gulf War veteran was convicted of carrying out the bombing attack that killed 168 people at the Oklahoma City Federal Building in 1995.

Ten people who either survived the blast or who had loved ones who died there were allowed to watch the execution in person, while hundreds of others gathered in Oklahoma City to watch a closed circuit feed on wide-screen television.
