AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

Auburn police are investigating two cases of rape.  24-year-old Anthony Bryant was arrested in result of a September 19th statutory rape incident. The victim and the suspect were acquaintances and the victim was not of age consent resulting in the arrest of Bryant on North Donahue Drive.  The second rape was reported to police yesterday, but had occurred previously.  The victim and the suspect in that case were acquaintances as well. This case was reported on W Langleaf Drive in Auburn.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Auburn had four confirmed rape cases total last year.

Rape Council East Alabama says education and awareness of rape are being raised across our area. That is the reason counselors believe they are seeing an increasing number of cases coming into their East Alabama office  because victims are more comfortable coming forward.  Counselors are helping 50 victims so far this year in their serving counties which include: Chambers, Lee, Macon, Russell, and Tallapoosa.
