MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Alabama State Hornets improved to 4-6 on the season after Saturday's 16-10 win over Mississippi Valley State. The Hornets got a late interception in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.
ASU never relinquished the lead after getting out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. The Hornets added a field goal in the second quarter to take a 10-0 lead.
The Hornets used to more field goals to gain a 16-3 lead by the fourth quarter. The Devils of MVSU wouldn't let up however. They scored a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to pull within six following the extra point.
Alabama State's offense was unable to gain any traction, offering the Devils at least one final opportunity to either tie or take the lead. The comeback attempt would fall short as an Alabama State interception sealed the win for the Hornets.
ASU was able to run the clock out in the final minutes of the game to hold on to the late lead.
Alabama State's win improves them to 3-1 on the road this season, and gives the team its third win under interim head coach Donald Hill-Eley.
The Hornets return home on a short week. ASU will host Edward Waters Thursday in the Turkey Day Classic. That game will kick at 2 p.m. from ASU Stadium.
