PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - Described as a "unique educational experience", New Hope Academy in Prattville features student-driven, individualize curriculum in the classroom. One teacher is taking this vision of the school to new heights, and her name is Jessica Morrissey.
From the beginning, Morrissey always knew her purpose in life.
"I have always wanted to work with children, and I have always worked with children; I just feel like that was my calling," Morrissey said. "Ever since I have been here (at New Hope) has opened up either in my heart or my mind. This is just the place I need to be."
At the Academy, educators are always looking for innovative new ways to teach their students in a supportive environment; Mrs. Morrissey strives to provide a curriculum that improves both academic and social skills.
"We focus a lot of social along with academic," the teacher explained., "With my specific class we do a lot of college prep because most of our kids have the ultimate goal to go to college, so I'm trying to implement the foundation so once they get to their freshman year in college they won't be so scared."
At the end of the day, all the time and energy spent is well worth it. The challenges and struggles of life are no match for this teacher and her kids.
"The kids are what I am here for. I feel as if it is my service to help guild these children."
Congrats Mrs. Morrissey, you're this week's Class Act!
