MILLBROOK, AL (WSFA) -

A Montgomery man is dead after an argument turned physical Sunday evening, according to the Millbrook Police Department.

Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson said the suspect, Kishawn Powell, 24, of Tuskegee, and the victim, Xavier May, 25, of Montgomery, were playing video games when a verbal altercation started, then escalated.

Johnson said at some point Powell pulled a handgun and shot May in the neck.

Millbrook police responded to reports of a person shot shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday at Park Place Apartments. Johnson said paramedics transported May to Prattville Baptist Emergency Room where he was later pronounced dead.

After the shooting officers received several calls from a restaurant in the 300 block of Ashton Plaza about a "suspicious suspect" asking if he could use someone's cell phone and get a ride home. The suspect reportedly told people he'd been in an altercation.

Police arrived at the restaurant after the man had left but quickly found a person matching Powell's description east of Ashton Plaza, near Winn Dixie. Johnson said Powell attempted to flee but was detained without incident.

Powell was taken to the Millbrook Police Department for questioning, then placed under arrest and charged.

He's currently in the Elmore County Jail without bond.
