TROY, AL (WSFA) - "Ever since South beat us, I think our players have bought in to the fact on being 1-0 this week and controlling what we can control," said head coach Neal Brown.
With a Sun Belt title within its reach, the Troy Trojans aren't focusing their attention on the championship, just yet.
"We're trying to just stay simple, do our job, and then take care of business and that will produce a win for us," said defensive end Seth Calloway.
The Trojans were sitting at 9-2 last year and a win away from a conference title, but came up short. That's given them a reason to be confident this year.
"Last year was more of stressing and trying to do too much," said wide receiver Emanuel Thompson. "I feel like this year's team is more relaxed. We are more composed and can handle situations like this rather than last year."
"I think now that we won like last year and we're winning again like this year, we know what to expect," said quarterback Brandon Silvers.
Let's be honest though, winning that conference title would have to be the cherry on top for those players.
"The conference championship is the ultimate title. That's why we practice all year all year for 12 games," said Thompson. "It's crazy how you go through 365 days just for one moment and that's to hold up the trophy at the end of the season. If you're not holding up the Sun Belt championship at the end of the season, that season to me is a failure. So last year we failed, but this year we're not looking for the same results."
Troy vs Arkansas State will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
