MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

WSFA 12 News viewers donated more than $22,000, more than 5,000 pounds of food and hundreds of toys to help local families in need during the holidays.

We partnered with the Montgomery Area Food Bank, Christmas Clearinghouse and Toys for Tots for our annual 12’s Day of Giving Monday!

Hundreds of people in the community stopped by the Walmart on Atlanta Highway in Montgomery to make donations.

Dan Atkinson's family and the Dan Atkinson Foundation donated $5,000. Atkinson, a longtime WSFA 12 News meteorologist, died on Sept. 26 at the age of 71. Atkinson had been battling Parkinson's disease for several years.

Walmart employees donated carts full of toys and pallets of boxes packed with groceries.

Mayor Todd Strange and Montgomery firefighters also helped deliver three vehicles full of toys that city of Montgomery employees donated.
